Dummy Caught on Tape Stealing from Security Company

Nothing satisfies us more than "big dope" stories. This week's edition comes courtesy of Swann Security.

The company says that during this month's Consumer Electronic Show, some dummy tried to make off with the company's sign-in book. Well, he don't know them very well, do he?

Being that the company does, you know... security... they had a lot of cameras set up around the booth. A lot of times, you can watch yourself walking by, checking out products, or just having a bad hair day. Apparently, you can also get caught stealing company client names.

The story almost seems too good to be true, but it was covered by the Las Vegas Now news team. Check out the story below.

Spy Camera Tissue Box: It's Snot What You Think

When I blow my nose, it sounds like the Tower of Power horn section. It ain't pretty, but it gets the job done and my 2-year-old thinks it's hilarious. However, there's no need to record such events.

Apparently, some feel otherwise. For those, we have the Tissue Box Hidden Camera DVR. Chip Chick says that the unit captures 720 x 480 video at 30 frames per second. Other features include a 2GB SD card (upgradable to 16GB), scheduled recording, motion detection, and a remote control.

It seems like a nifty alternative to stuffing a camera into the head of a favorite stuffed animal. However, it's also pricey at $600. -- Rachel Cericola

SimpliSafe Delivers Apartment Security

SimpliSafe

Apartment dwellers miss out on some of the best technology. OK -- security is possibly one of the most boring areas of electronics, but that doesn't mean you don't want it, either.

So, two squares from Boston made security slightly more interesting by coming up with a portable solution. SimpliSafe is pretty cool because it has no wires and no lengthy, pricey service contracts.

It also has a pretty easy setup. Daily Candy says that you just peel off the adhesive backing and stick it to the wall, like a bunch of puffy Smurf stickers. However, these things are ready for when something goes down, assuming you are up to date with your $15 monthly fee. That will get you off-site monitoring, which alerts the cops if intruders or a panic button triggers the system.

SimpliSafe starts at $225; that price will get you the basic prepackaged system or you can get crazy and build up your own. -- Rachel Cericola
