Don't cry too much for Circuit City's demise. According to CrunchGear, the retailer may not be dead just yet.

Just don't expect to see the lights go on at any of those empty storefronts. Instead, the retailer might make its comeback online. The above message currently serves as the site's placeholder. Notice the part that says:

CircuitCity.com is also temporarily closed, although we anticipate the website will reopen in the coming weeks. Please check back for updates.

Aha. Maybe Circuit City still has product to unload. Maybe they just liked CompUSA's business model/path. Unless they have some extremely cheap prices, they are going to have a lot of competition from Amazon, NewEgg and TigerDirect. We'll see what happens. -- Rachel Cericola




Circuit City to Shutter on Sunday

Starting this Sunday, there will be another large, empty storefront in your town. According to Bloomberg, Circuit City will shut its doors for good this weekend.

The end date is slightly earlier than expected, because many locations are running out of inventory. The liquidation company had originally planned to finish out by the end of this month.

Apparently, the sale went well. Of course, not for everyone. Many bargain shoppers were complaining about prices and the extent of the "all sales final" policy. One Boston customer made national headlines after blowing $1,100 on a broken TV. Let the buyer beware of the final bargains!

Circuit City first filed for Chapter 11 in November 2008. By early this year, the retailer had announced plans to liquidate all of its merchandise. -- Rachel Cericola
