Dish & iPhone Add Fandango
No one stands in line for tickets anymore. Maybe that's why Fandango has added a few new ways to find your ticket fix.
Zatz Not Funny says that Dish Network had added a widget to its interactive channel. Subscribers just need to tune into channel 100. Use your remote to scroll to Entertainment at the bottom of the screen, and you'll find Fandango. As long as your set-top is connected to a phone line, you can reserve a seat. Once you get to the theater, just flash your credit card in lieu of a ticket.
If you don't have Dish, there are other ways to score a seat. The company just announced a new iPhone/iPod touch app, which will allow users to buy tickets, view trailers and ratings -- all on the fly. It's available now for free from Apple's App Store. -- Rachel Cericola
I'm intrigued by these TV widget projects (e.g. http://connectedtv.yahoo.com/). They seem like a backdoor into the TV-Web-computer convergence we've all been waiting for. Anything that can bring Web functionality into the TV domain that *doesn't* require a new set-top box gets the thumbs-up from me.
What I want is an IMDb widget that lets me tap the IMDb's database anytime I'm watching a movie or TV show.
That would be very cool, since I am addicted to IMDB. However, I always have my laptop next to me. If they added that functionality to my TV, I might be forced to watch the crappy programming.
